Wijnaldum: Liverpool have evolved a lot
It's hard to imagine that 12 months ago we were looking at young Liverpool side, containing a lot of lads that hadn't played a game in Europe before last season.
To reach a Champions League final and not be completely embarrassed by Real Madrid would've been a night to live long in the memory for fans of most clubs.
But Liverpool's young charges chose to 'go again', reaching another Champions League final and going one better and winning the thing.
Not only that, we kept pace with Man City, generally considered the best ever team in the Premier League, until the last match. Losing narrowly by one point.
So, it's hard to disagree with Gini Wijnaldum when he says that Liverpool have evolved a lot. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, he said: "We have evolved a lot.
"You can see it not only with the results but also with the way we were playing. We grew during the season.
"We started really well and we managed to win difficult games where in the past it was quite difficult and if we didn't play really well we didn't win the games that were really tough.
"But this season we managed to win those games. We learned a lot. Everyone is a better player than they were before."
The Reds go into the new season, starting in just over a month, as the favourites (or one of the faves) for most competitions they're in. So it's fair to say that the evolution is coming very close to being complete. A bloody scary thought for our rival sides!
