Update: Liverpool not at all interested in Southampton's McCarthy
Reports over the weekend claimed that Liverpool were looked to Southampton's goalie Alex McCarthy to replace the outgoing Simon Mignolet during this window.
The 29 year old has already seemed to be just on the cusp of reaching the next level as a goalkeeper, always in and around the England squad without actually being first choice.
But with Mignolet leaving this summer, Liverpool are going to need a backup, particularly as it looks like the club will be leaving Loris Karius on loan in the Turkish top division.
McCarthy has played just over 200 senior games, playing 25 times for Southampton last season, more or less establishing himself as the club's first choice 'keeper.
The Liverpool Echo, though, has moved to quash these claims today. Quoted on the Echo website this afternoon was: "Liverpool will not be making a move for either Alex McCarthy or Dorukhan Tokoz – both of whom have been reported as being potential transfer targets for Jurgen Klopp this week.
"Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was an admirer of the Guildford-born custodian who has been capped once by England in the second half of a 3-0 friendly win over USA in November 2018 but the ECHO understands his name has not been discussed by the current management team."
