Trent on how important Firmino is to Liverpool

It was perhaps his display against Newcastle last weekend that finally made it hit home to those that aren't of the Liverpool persuasion, but there can be no doubting how good Roberto Firmino really is.

Liverpool fans have long sung 'Bobby's' praises, naming him as one of the best false nines in the world. Whilst rival fans continue to point out his goal scoring tally. Outright ignoring everything else he does on the field.

But his importance to the team is perhaps best stated by one of his team mates, Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Scouser said in the LFC Matchday Magazine: "The quality he possesses is unbelievable.

"He's one of the best, if not the best, number nines in the world. We wouldn't swap him for any other player.

"He is everything to us. We need Bobby to keep ticking. We need him to connect the play and join all the dots for us. Without him you see how much the team misses. It shows how much we really do need him."

Firmino had a bit of an off-season last year, but still turned in enough quality performances to lift the Champions League and finish 2nd in the league.

But this season he appears to be excelling even his previous levels, and Trent can't speak highly enough of the work he does. He continued: "You'd struggle to name a better link player. Obviously there's Lionel Messi at Barcelona, but he's out of this world.

"If you're talking about the Premier League I think Bobby is the best and he is still so underrated for what he does for the team.

"Maybe the two other forwards, Sadio and Mo, get all the credit for their goals, but what Bobby does for them can go unnoticed. He drags defenders out of position so they can get in behind them and the way that he presses and wins the ball back is relentless.

"He's exactly what we need."
