Salzburg star Takumi Minamino 'expected' to join Liverpool in January transfer window
The build up to Tuesday night's big group decider in Austria was all about the young Norwegian striker Erling Håland.
But many Reds fans found their eyes caught by another one of the club's young attacking stars, Minamino.
The 24 year old has been at the club for the past five seasons, currently enjoying his sixth and looked a real handful in both group games.
So it's heartening news this morning from James Pearce of the Athletic that Liverpool are actually expected to sign the former Cerezo Osaka player in January.
This morning Pearce Tweeted:
The Japan international star has been one of the standout players amongst the non-elite clubs in the Champions League this season and has been linked to a number of clubs.
Not least of all our local rivals Man Utd. But Liverpool are far too well-placed to miss out on the player, who they apparently value at much higher than his £7.25 million release clause.
'Expect it to happen', says James Pearce. Which, for a 24 year old, with his best years ahead of him, who has scored 108 goals and assists in 199 games for the Austrian side is a bargain.
