Rodri: Liverpool are 'the best team in England and Europe'
We may have won the Champions League, but apparently that doesn't mean that we're the best team in Europe, if you listen to most experts on this side of the English Channel.
Winning the biggest club competition in world football - the Champions League - is no longer a barometer of whether you're the best team in Europe so in winning it last season Liverpool didn't confirm themselves the best.
No, in 2005, nobody can deny that we were far from the best team in Europe. But 2019 was different. The successive wins, unbeaten run at home, single defeat in a league season and finishing 2nd to City with a record points haul. All hallmarks of a 'best team'.
But if you ask new Man City midfielder, we are the best team in England and Europe. Rarely a day goes by anymore without somebody in Manchester talking about LFC so it may as well be something positive.
Speaking to ESPN, the City midfielder was being asked about whether Liverpool are now his club's biggest rivals and no United. He answered: "I don't know, I had never been in the city before, I don't know how people in the city feel.
"But the team to beat is Liverpool now and that has been seen the last two seasons.
"They are the champions of Europe so everyone wants to beat them, not just us."
Jurgen Klopp's team now sit 8 clear of City with 8 games played and are due to beat Guardiola's sides run of successive wins if they can beat Man Utd and Spurs this month.
He added: "They're a great team, they have improved a lot of things, they're a very good team, and they're the best team in England and in Europe."
