Robbo: Liverpool need a complete performance

We all know how European nights at Anfield can be; beneath the lights, the atmosphere, the singing, the flags and, then, ultimately the victory and the decades-long memories.

We've been here before, even going back as little as last season, when Liverpool recovered from 3-nil down away at Barcelona to win 4-nil at Anfield and reach another Champions League final.

But, while Atletico Madrid would ordinarily be a difficult prospect, considering their bad showing domestically this season, Europe really is their last hope. It will not be easy.

So it's good to hear that the players know that their collective game must be raised big-time, way above the levels of recent performances, if they hope to triumph tomorrow night.

And ahead of the match, Andy Robertson was talking to the press. He said: "Over there we never had a shot on target – if we do that again we won’t get through.

"We dominated possession, which I believe we’ll do again tomorrow night at Anfield.

"But it’s about what we do with that possession, it’s about creating the chances and trying to be clinical in front of goal.

"That’s what we need to do tomorrow night, we need to create more chances than we did over there and when they fall to us we need try to take them, because we’re obviously 1-0 down and we need to try to overturn that.

"But, on the flip side, we need to be wary of them going forward and we need to try to keep a clean sheet to give us the best possible chance.

"We need a complete Liverpool performance. If we can do that we believe we can cause any team problems and we can beat any team.

"Hopefully tomorrow that’s the case."

Liverpool will need to ensure that they score at least twice, to make sure extra-time is avoided, whilst being careful not to let Atletico take advantage of lapses like last time. Hopefully the real Liverpool will finally stand up at Anfield tomorrow night.
