Reports: Liverpool make contact with Napoli about Koulibaly
All talk after the Champions League final was that Liverpool didn't want a new centre back. That didn't stop the rumours - on a daily basis - claiming we were interested in De Ligt.
Similarly, rumours today claim that Liverpool are interested in bringing Napoli's star man Kalidou Koulibaly to Anfield this summer.
The claims have emerged from Italian paper Il Mattino (via Liverpoolfc.com), who say that Liverpool have made initial contact with the club about the 27 year old defender.
The Naples based club are reportedly very interested in letting the defender leave, but only if their financial demands are met. Koulibaly is valued by Napoli at £107 million.
From our POV, there's no way Liverpool will break the transfer record for a centre back again, unless some sort of swap deal (plus cash) was arranged for Lovren.
Even then, we'd still be looking at paying almost £75 million for another centre back who is closer to 30 than he is 25.
With Dejan more than likely leaving during the summer window, we'd expect a centre back to be brought in but probably not for that sort of money.
Having said that, there is no doubting that the player is one of the best in his position, which is why the likes of Juventus and a number of Premier League clubs are interested.
