Reports: Liverpool had no Real Madrid contact over Mane, despite claims
Reports in the past few hours have claimed that Liverpool have been contacted by Real Madrid with an offer for Sadio Mane.
It's common knowledge that the Real boss Zinedine Zidane has always cited Mane as his number one target, and it's believed to have been one of the reasons he originally left the club last year, that the Madrid club couldn't bring him in.
But with the La Liga runners-up going in hard in the transfer window this summer, already spending close to £400 million, Mane appears to still be top of that particular list.
And those reports this evening have come from a strange source - Mane's international manager, who seems hellbent on kicking up a fuss after saying: "The career of a footballer is very short and sometimes you don’t get the chance a lot so if it’s there, and I think Zidane likes him, why not?
"He played in Southampton and when the chance came he took it and went to Liverpool and he has held the challenge well in England. I think he will do well with another challenge in another country."
It isn't the first time, and won't be the last, that an international manager has attempted to interfere in one of their player's club futures but it won't be welcomed in this case.
In fact, the club has already distanced itself from these comments, claiming that no contact has been received from Real Madrid, as the Spanish side go about their business the only way they know how: via third parties. Whether this will go any further, we'll have to see.
