Player Ratings: Shrewsbury 2-2 Liverpool
Wow. As Jurgen might say... wow.
That was truly shocking. But somehow Liverpool managed to come out the other side with a 2-2 draw and a replay, when the fairer result would've been crashing out.
It all started well enough, with Shrewsbury looking timid and nervy, and Liverpool taking the lead and then slipping into a familiar malaise.
The difference was that we didn't have our first-choice defence out there, so that familiar malaise led to a few good chances that the home side failed to take. In the first half.
In the second, they were given too many good chances and made us pay. First from a penalty given away by Yasser Larouci, then by a complete Lovren cock up.
So to a replay at Anfield. The exact result that Klopp won't have wanted. But the replay will provide many of these players with another game, and a chance to redeem themselves. They may not get many more this season on today's showing, otherwise.
Adrian - The only real bright spot in an absolute shit-show for the European Champions. Liverpool - arguably - a stronger side against the League One strugglers but somehow managed to put in a must worse performance. Had it not been for Adrian things would've been much, much worse. 8 Man of the Match
Neco Williams - The youngster was promising early on but struggling with the robust nature of the home side's play. Struggled under the microscope of the direct play. Had little joy at the other end throughout. 6
Dejan Lovren - Oh, Degsy... the big Croatian was absolutely shocking. Time after time, he allowed Shrewsbury a sniff, with each mistimed tackle, slip or brain-fart allowing the home side closer to goal. Before the nervousness allowed them in, Larouci fouled and gave away a penalty. It was his error - directly - that led to the second. Shocking display. 3
Joel Matip - Wasn't much better than Lovren but has the excuse that he looked far more rusty and has been out for longer. Taken off with 15 minutes to go for Mo Salah. 4
Yasser Larouci - Feels harsh to rate the youngster low, but he struggled all day and gave away a penalty, so not much else you can say. 5
Fabinho - Looked quite lazy all afternoon, constantly under-hitting passes and mistiming tackles, like his defensive counterparts. Moved into defence with 15 minutes to go and didn't exactly cover himself in glory there either. 5
Pedro Chirivella - Probabaly the least worse of our midfield three. He was... decent. Not a lot more you can say. Did the least wrong? That's about as positive as it gets really. 6
Curtis Jones - Scored the opener but then proceeded to spend the next 90 minutes acting like it was the Curtis Jones show. He's a phenomenal talent but he needs to start playing more for the team on these rare occasions that he gets a start. 6
Harvey Elliott - Struggled throughout. The first time when his lack of physical presence cost him. Came off for Oxlade-Chamberlain. 5
Divock Origi - Was just never at the races. Moved all across the front but wasn't able to influence the match. Had a few decent efforts but never really trouble the goalie. 5
Takumi Minamino - Worked hard but you can tell he's still getting up to speed. Taken off with a few minutes to go when we got desperate for Bobby Firmino. 6
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - Did very little of note after coming on. Bit of a pointless sub really. 5
Mo Salah - At least perked up our attack when he came on but only had one chance that went past the far post. NA
Roberto Firmino - Not on for long. NA
