Player Ratings: Man City 1-1 Liverpool
After what was an end-to-end affair in the first half, in which Liverpool went ahead deservedly, it turned out to be a disappointing finish to the game.
The Reds went ahead through a Mo Salah penalty, after Sadio Mane was fouled by Kyle Walker in the box. City equalised 20 minutes later through Jesus, with Kevin De Bruyne later missing a penalty.
It was the bit of luck Liverpool needed, as we didn't get much more through the game, with a penalty not being given against Cancelo for a similar handball offence.
The second half was pretty turgid, slow and nobody really looked likely to score. Liverpool probably had the better of the opportunities but were unable to fashion any sort of chance.
Alisson - Little to do, couldn't do anything about the goal and his distribution wasn't helped by the weather. Was looking to the bench at one point 2nd half. A little bit worrying. 7
Trent Alexander-Arnold - Had a decent first half, although delivery was lacking, but pulled up with what looked like a calf injury mid-way through the 2nd half. 6
Joe Gomez - Was solid enough, passing was a bit poor from the back but made several good clearances and interceptions. Also, it was never a penalty. But it was under the current rules. 7 Man of the Match
Joel Matip - Good seeing him back, albeit looking a bit rusty and leggy late on. Like Gomez, his passing was a bit off but looked solid. 7
Andy Robertson - Up and down the wing, never stopped, but his tandem work with Mane just wasn't as fluid as usual. 6
Gini Wijnaldum - Probably love Gini more than anyone, but he was poor today. His usual slick, reassurance in midfield wasn't there. You can't really blame him for getting pulled out of position for City's equaliser but the alternate formation seemed to throw him a bit. 6
Jordan Henderson - Got through a lot of work today, always where you wanted him to be. 7
Roberto Firmino - Pulled off just on the hour, after labouring through and not really offering much. It was promising to see the four main attackers start but, ultimately, it was an experiment that didn't really bear fruit straight away. Maybe as time goes on. 6
Sadio Mane - Won the penalty and was a constant danger to Walker in the first half. Seemed to keep drifting inside in the 2nd half as things fizzled out. 7
Mo Salah - Scored the penalty and had one or two other decent opportunities but couldn't quite make them count. A frustrating game all round for our forward lads. 7
Diogo Jota - Wasn't able to carry on his great recent goal-scoring form, despite have probably our best chances. Will have been disappointed he didn't make more of a 2nd half chance that he shot straight at Ederson. 6
Xherdan Shaqiri - Was brought on to inject fresh impetus into the attack after the hour but wasn't really able to have an impact on a rainy night in Manchester. 6
James Milner - Replaced the injured Trent and just went about his defensive job. 6
