Player Ratings: Liverpool 0-2 Atalanta
After a first half that could've put most of us to sleep five times over, Liverpool somehow managed to go in at the break level.
Atalanta hadn't dominated possession, but they had been totally in control, with the home side rarely bothering their area, never mind threatening their goal.
But the second half managed to be even worse, purely due to the goals we conceded. A raft of changes enabled Liverpool to look a bit more threatening, but we still created little.
It now means that our Champions League fate will go down to the 5th match night at least, with Ajax the visitors to Anfield next Tuesday.
Alisson - All round had little to do, nothing he could do about the goal. 7
Neco Williams - The young right back had a solid enough night, but his offered little at the other end. Looked a bit nervy. 6
Rhys Williams - Despite the scoreline, the centre backs were actually decent and young Williams acquitted himself well again. 7
Joel Matip - Like Alisson and Williams, he'll be disappointed at the scoreline after playing well enough. Was seen leading the press at times in the first half, from quite high up and his passing was better than a lot of his team mates. 7
Kostas Tsimikas - Won't have enjoyed his first Champions League night in a Red shirt too much, considering the result but had a decent enough game all things considered. 7
Gini Wijnaldum - Made some crucial interceptions in the first half but came off just after the hour. Unfortunately gave away the ball that led to Atalanta's first. 6
James Milner - Had a great game at the weekend at right-back, but I still just feel that playing him in the middle against a quick and mobile midfield, like Atalanta's, is a bit much for him these days. He often looked a step behind. 6
Curtis Jones - In the last two games he's played as if he's trying to show a more mature and disciplined side to his game but failed to really influence proceeding at all. Looked reluctant to do much running in his own half at times in the second half. 6
Sadio Mane - Another frustrating game for Sadio. A lot of huff and puff, but his passing and first touch weren't quiet at his usual level. Will have been disappointed in himself. 6
Mo Salah - First game back after Coronavirus but played like he was still struggling a bit. Came off after an hour. 5
Divock Origi - Awful first half. Lazy. Little pressing. Poor in possession. Fell over a couple of times. It's sad to see a lad that has some great attributes pissing his every chance up the wall. And he gets many more chances than he deserves. Went off on the hour. 2
Roberto Firmino - At first glance, at 0-0, bringing on Bobby, Jota, Robbo and Fabinho looked like we were going to make a concerted effort to win in the last half hour. Then came the goal. It was all down hill from there and Bobby wasn't able to influence it. 6
Diogo Jota - Gave Atalanta something else to worry about but, like Firmino, wasn't able to really get a foot in the game. 6
Andy Robertson - Gave us a bit more security down the left but seemed like a needless change really, as Kostas was doing well. Was pretty much like for like. 6
Fabinho - Was presumably brought on to give Gini a rest, and to help wrestle control back of the midfield. It didn't really work but that's not Fab's fault. We were 2-nil down before he'd really settled into the match. 6
Takumi Minamino - On for just over 7 minutes. What can the poor lad do in that time. NA
