Player Ratings: Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool
Who thought we'd end up running out comfortable 2-nil winners at Stamford Bridge this afternoon? Certainly not me, that's for sure.
But in the end, it was an easy afternoon for Liverpool, a potential slip up with Werner winning a penalty aside.
Sadio Mane bagged a brace, with a lovely, deft header past Kepa, before giving the Chelsea keeper a nightmare by hunting down the ball, winning forcing an error before making it 2-nil.
A late penalty for Chelsea, given quite generously by Thiago, was saved by Alisson. Meanwhile new midfield maestro Thiago was given a 45 minutes runout and bossed the game.
Check out the player ratings below:
Alisson - Untested for most of the 90 minutes before being called upon to face a penalty, which he duly saved. 8
Trent Alexander-Arnold - A solid game for Trent. Caught out once or twice but with Fabinho in the mood he was in he was never punished for it. 7
Virgil Van Dijk - A quiet game for Van Dijk, who seemed content to let Fabinho take centre stage and mopped up behind him. 7
Fabinho - His second go at centre back in an utterly massive game and he came through it with massively flying colours. Had Timo Werner in his back pocket from the first few minutes and only let him out so Thiago could foul him for a penalty. Put him straight back in again 30 seconds later. 10 Man of the Match
Andy Robertson - Looked much happier with an in-form Mane ahead of him and did a lot of work down Chelsea's right hand side. Reece James barely got a look in at both ends. 7
Gini Wijnaldum - A game of two halves for Gini, who started deep and ended the second half as one of the furthest forward LFC players. He could've had a couple of goals but it wasn't to be. Solid outing for him today. 7
Naby Keita - Subdued and struggled to get a foot on the ball. He looks as if the confidence needs a boost. 6
Jordan Henderson - A good first half but had to come off after apparently suffering with a tight thigh. 7
Sadio Mane - Any other week and a couple of goals, and his display, would've seen him win everyone's MOTM but he was trumped by a defensive masterclass by Fabinho. Harrassed, harried, scored a couple, might've had a hat-trick. Sadio has hit the ground running again this season, and we love it. 9
Mo Salah - It was a really good overall performance from Mo, who really does look hungry this season. Only thing he missed was another goal or two but can be happy with 3 goals in his opening two matches. 8
Roberto Firmino - A top class assist and a much-improved display on last week. 7
Thiago - Well, who saw that second half display coming? He was absolutely top-drawer. For what we paid for him, we could really have a player here who upgrades our midfield to another level. 8
James Milner - Didn't do too badly, but he was scrappy and did what he was asked to do. 6
Takumi Minamino - Only had 5 minutes and will hopefully get more time in mid-week. NA
