Player ratings: Bayern Munich 1-3 Liverpool

What began as a rather cagey affair ended up being more than comfortable for the boys, as Jurgen Klopp's lads ran out 3-1 winners at the Allianz Arena.

Once again, little Sadio was on hand to pop up and score a couple of goals, and Bayern just struggled to cope with him all night.

Make no mistake here: there'll be tougher challenges ahead, but it's clear that Liverpool officially ended one of Europe's great sides tonight and they will no doubt have to spend big in the summer to reach Liverpool's current level.

As Klopp himself said, quite proudly, at full-time: Liverpool are back at the top table.

Alisson - Probably had even less to do than he did against Burnley! Little he could to prevent the goal, some decent precision kicks to get things moving quickly in the 2nd half too. 7

Trent Alexander-Arnold - Looked, again, a bit unsure of himself in the first half but came into his own in the 2nd. Really started to put in some quality balls and the Reds benefited with the increased pressure seeing Bayern crack, and eventually break. 7

Joel Matip - Most will give the award to Mane but Matip was easily our best defender, if not player. And that's despite scoring an own goal. He could do nothing to prevent it, and had to get a touch to prevent Lewandowski simply tapping it in. Stepped up to great effect and stood tall when needed. 8

Virgil Van Dijk - Once again, alongside Matip van Dijk was a beast. Matip is tidy and neat, quite sleek, while Van Dijk is a defensive beast. A colossus, much like Sami Hyypia before him. He's starting to get the hang of these set piece goals now as . 8

Andrew Robertson - Had a good chance to score and was always an available outlet to the attack, worked tirelessly but stupidly got himself banned for the 1st leg of the quarter-final. Whoever we get, hopefully we're still well in the game before his return. 7

Jordan Henderson - Was subbed early on after James stepped on his foot. 6

Gini Wijnaldum - Gini came close to a 6 but he upped his display in the last 25 minutes to just about warrant a 7. He was somewhat uncharacteristically sloppy at times and hassled on the ball too easily. He has those games so rarely that it really stands out. 7

James Milner - Love Milly but he didn't have his best of nights. Like Gini, gave it away too often in a sloppy first hour and was taken off, looking knackered with a few minutes to go. Still, he grabbed an assist for Big Virg's goal. 6

Sadio Mane - It's almost a shame we haven't got another 20 games to go, as Sadio could have a crack at Mo's goalscoring exploits of last season! He scored a wonderful solo effort to get us into a good early position, expertly protecting the ball on the edge of the Bayern area, before sharply turning and chipping it past Neuer. Lovely little header for his 2nd too. Hard not to give him the MotM again on current form. 9 Man of the Match

Mo Salah - Didn't get himself a goal, again, but he did provide Bayern with a nightmare all night long. He finished off another great display with a beautiful ball to Mane for our 3rd. Can't wait til the goals start flowing again though. 8

Roberto Firmino - Another good one from Bobby, albeit not as effective until the game became a bit more stretched in the 2nd half. 7

Fabinho - An early arrival for the injured Henderson. Was neat and tidy, without being spectacular. That's all we wanted from him tonight, though. 7

Divock Origi - Barely had 10 minutes to settle in but was a willing runner. NA

Adam Lallana - Came on for Milner, had barely 5 minutes on the field. NA
