Minamino tells GFFN: 'I got an offer from the best club on the planet'
He's in line for his first Premier League appearance today, after a largely impressive debut in the Derby last Sunday, and Takumi Minamino has now explained why he joined Liverpool.
The 24 year old Japan star officially signed on the 1st January 2020 but his move was already known a few weeks prior, exciting Liverpool fans up and down the country and across the globe.
The Reds have seemingly signed a highly-promising player and is ready-made for our style and system, but we weren't the only team interested.
When asked why he chose Liverpool, the attacking player said: "I received an offer from what is currently the best club on the planet, that means a lot to me.
"I felt that I was very fortunate, a wonderful opportunity that I really wanted to take.
"Everything began with my entourage, I knew that Liverpool were interested in me.
"I was surprised, but after having faced them twice in the Champions’ League and having had the opportunity to speak with Jürgen Klopp, I became more and more excited to take this challenge on.
"The fact that I scored a goal at Anfield gave me a certain level of confidence. I said to myself that I want to savour this atmosphere more often."
The player also told GFFN that he already feels like he's been here a few months, is happy and has been made to feel very welcome by the club and players.
And according to Minamino, Klopp's first words to him after his first training session were: “Don’t worry about who you are playing with now, play in the same way as you did at Salzburg, play the Minamino way. Enjoy yourself!”
