Matteo laughably claims LFC should sign Bale

It's not quite Sunday yet, but we're less than 12 hours away from it, so it's no surprise that the transfer nonsense has started already.

Today, it's the turn of usually cogent and sensible former Red Dominic Matteo to put forth a bit of a weird one. He believes that LFC should signed Real Madrid's Gareth Bale this year.

It quite simply isn't going to happen. Not in a million years, not least of all because of his age and probably transfer fee, but also because he just wouldn't suit any of our systems.

But that didn't stop Matteo surging forward with his rather bizarre idea. Speaking ahead of the Reds match on Sunday against Spurs, he said (when asked whether Liverpool would want to sign the Welsh star): "We certainly wouldn’t say no.

"Possibly. It’s a case of whether the financials could be done.

"It would be a big signing.

"If he was coming back to England, I’m sure that everyone would take him."

Of course, nobody is doubting Bale's quality and he will be in high demand in the summer, particularly amongst English clubs. But we just can't see Liverpool being involved at all.
