Matip hungry to achieve more at Liverpool & wants to get better
The news of Joel Matip signing his new 5-year contract at Liverpool last night was greeted with widespread joy by Reds fans worldwide.
The 28 year old centre back has been in arguably better form than Virgil Van Dijk so far this season, and played a crucial role in our superb form over the past 10 months.
While many players would be content with a Champions League medal and a good run against one of the best Premier League sides ever, Matip isn't one of those players.
The defender has spoken of his desire to achieve much more at Anfield. He was speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, when he said: "It is great to be a part of the history and to be remembered for things like this, but we are working hard to make us remembered for some more things!"
"You don’t want it to be the end. We have a young and talented team and I think every one of us is hungry. Now we’ve seen how it is to win something and we want to have that feeling again.
On his team mates, he said: "Every one of them was hungry, but sometimes you need a little bit of luck and a lot of work to have this success. We’ve had it now, but we are focused to repeat it and repeat it."
The defender is now tied down for his best years, with it generally being accepted that centre backs peak at around this late 20's.
He said: "I’ve had a few years in my career now and as a centre-back you maybe need some more time to learn. I have had now enough time to learn, but I still can learn – I want to improve, even when I am 30 or something like this. I always want to improve, I always want to learn. It is the only way it works – if you want to get better, you have to learn."
