Match Preview: Newcastle United vs Liverpool

Date & time: July 26th, 2020 - 16:00

Where: St. James' Park

Is it on: BT Sport

Ref: Anthony Taylor

So, now we've all gorged on the last few days of celebrations, we should remember that we still have the small matter of a club record points total to accumulate.

Liverpool are the Champions of England, or Premier League champions, whichever you prefer and 30 years of jokes and baiting and hurt has come to an end.

We can't still beat Man City's points total, set two years ago, but we can still set a club record of 99 points in the top flight.

Newcastle are safe, have little to play for, but would probably like a big scalp to finish off the season. Certainly, Steve Bruce would, as a club takeover draws ever near.

Injuries & Suspension

As has been the case for the last few weeks, the captain Jordan Henderson and Joel Matip are both out still.

The rest of the squad are fit, and raring to go. With Lovren and Lallana both seemingly on their collective way, with moves to Brighton and Zenit in the offing, both may sit this one out. But Klopp may still offer them a final goodbye, after missing out against Chelsea.

For Newcastle Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Emil Krafth and Florian Lejeune, while Sean Longstaff may also miss out.

Last 5 games:

Newcastle (all comps): D-L-L-L-D

Liverpool (all comps): W-W-D-L-W

Predicted Line up

Perhaps I'm just a romantic, but I'd personally give Lallana and Lovren a start. It won't happen, of course, as they're both destined for new clubs.

But I'd also be surprised to see much in the way of rotation. The lads are off on their well-deserved 'summer' break after tomorrow, so expect a strong side, regardless of the match in mid-week.

Predicted starting XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Fabinho, Lallana, Keita, Mane, Salah and Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, Gomez, Williams, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Wijnaldum, Minamino and Origi.
