Match Preview: Liverpool vs Newcastle

Updated: Sep 14, 2019

Date & time: 14th September 2019, 12.30pm

Where: Anfield

Is it on: BT Sport Premier League

Referee: Andre Marriner

Now that that nonsense known as the international break is over, we can get back to the important stuff again: Premier League football.

Liverpool - appear to - have exited the break unscathed, and it has allowed the likes of Alisson and Naby Keita to work through two more weeks of recovery from injury.

It has also meant a welcome 'rest' of sorts for some key players and the Reds will welcome Newcastle to Anfield tomorrow hopefully in high spirits and looking to extend their lead.

The visitors will probably set themselves up to defend, and defend deeps. Closing out the space, and allowing Liverpool to have a lot of the ball in their own half.

So it's basically up to Jurgen Klopp's Reds to break the away side down, score as many as possible and put more pressure on Man City who play on Saturday night.

Injuries & Suspension

At this point there are thankfully no new injuries, with just Alisson, Naby Keita and Nathaniel Clyne still out of the team.

The news for Newcastle is not so good as they are missing a number of first-team players, Sean Longstaff, Matt Ritchie, Florian Lejeune, DeAndre Yedlin, Allan Saint-Maximin, Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle.

There is also a doubt over Miguel Almiron who is just as likely to start as he is miss the match. It'll be a tough ask for Newcastle to put out a strong team.

Last 5 games:

Liverpool (all comps): W-W-W-W-W

Newcastle (all comps): L-L-W-L-D

Predicted line-up

Considering the international break is over again until next month, and most of our squad is available, fit and hopefully raring to go there's no reason we shouldn't put out a strong team.

So, for that reason alone, we're predicting that we'll field basically the same side as the one that started against Burnley two weeks back.

Predicted team: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah and Firmino.
