Match Preview: Community Shield - Liverpool vs Arsenal
Date & time: August 29th, 2020 - 16:30
Is it on: BT Sport 1
Ref: Andre Marriner
The summer was short-lived, in football terms, with barely a month passing between our last game of the season and our first of the next season.
Liverpool start the season as Champions, and will take on Arsenal tomorrow in the Community Shield; our second consecutive appearance and it'll hopefully end better than it did last year.
The Reds' players have had just two weeks holiday since the season ended, and only two weeks of pre-season. It's been a very odd year, has 2020.
But then, we've had a really lengthy break compared to many of our main rivals, as the season was all but over for LFC before 2019-20 restarted. A win tomorrow, another trophy and we'll be off to a flyer before August is up.
Injuries & Suspension
For Liverpool, as mentioned earlier today, a host of first team regulars will be missing: Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Squad players Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Harry Wilson are also missing.
Trent should return, but it'd be a surprise to see him start. He's likely to take his place on the bench, if at all.
The FA Cup holders are missing Shkodran Mustafi, Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers.
Last 5 games:
Liverpool (pre-season): W-D
Arsenal (pre-season): W
Predicted Line up
It picks itself really, doesn't it? If the main boys are fit, they start. Especially in a game that involves a trophy.
With the captain missing, and Trent still battling to be ready, there are only really two places up for grabs. That is, of course, unless Klopp opts to throw some unusual selections out.
Predicted starting XI: Alisson, Williams, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson, Fabinho, Keita, Wijnaldum, Mane, Salah and Firmino.
Subs: Adrian, Phillips, Alexander-Arnold, Jones, Milner, Minamino and Brewster.
