Liverpool will reportedly 'battle' Man Utd for Dayot Upamecano
After Liverpool's massive defensive collapse on Sunday night, it was almost inevitable that we'd see reports about the club looking to sign a goalkeeper.
What was less prevalent though, were reports of Liverpool looking at new defenders. What became clear on Sunday was that Joe Gomez is still very inexperienced, and still has a penchant for a bit of a wobble. He's done it more then once in recent months.
Adrian played his part, but the defence can't blame him for the defensive wobbles against Leeds, Man City and Arsenal last season. Joel Matip, likewise, as good as he is can't be relied upon - fitness-wise - so it's likely we may make a move into the market.
Fabinho has shown he can fill in but he shouldn't be a long-term option there, so the news that we're interested in RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano will certainly excite many LFC fans.
The reports come from Bild, who claim that Liverpool and Man Utd are both in for the 21 year old France international, as his release clause drops next summer to a paltry £36.5 million. Which, for an experienced youngster, is nothing in this market.
The defender has played over 100 times for a top class Leipzig side and is likely to be on the move after the current season, when Liverpool could be in the market, with many others, for a new centre back after our recent backline struggles.
