Liverpool reportedly 'just short' of value of Real Betis defender Mandi
With Liverpool having lost the outgoing Dejan Lovren already this summer, we're starting to look a little short in defence, with regards to back up options.
It's already common knowledge that LFC are in desperate need of a back up for Andy Robertson, having alternated between James Milner and Neco Williams at times. But a real option will be necessary over the course of another punishing season to come.
According to reports in the Mirror today, Liverpool have made an offer for Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi of just £9 million.
Despite the fact that he has a release clause of £25 million, Betis would accept an offer of £10.8 million. A valuation that the Reds currently fall just £1.8 million short of.
The highly-rated Algerian international has played over 140 times for Betis in the last three seasons and, at 28, would offer Jurgen Klopp a great deal of experience to cover for Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
If the reports are true, hopefully the Reds will come back in with the expected valuation and we can box off one area that needs back up with the new season just one month away now.
