Liverpool could potentially sign Diogo Jota as early as Friday night
After the barnstorming introduction of one Thiago Alcantara this afternoon, news immediately broke that Liverpool were reportedly close to signing Diogo Jota.
The 23 year old has been at Wolves since 2017, helping the Midlands side into the Premier League, before scoring 26 and assisting 13 in 83 games since Wolves came back into the top flight.
The deal is reportedly worth around £35 million, and you have to wonder how much of that - or a potentially larger fee - has been offset by the sale of Ki-Jana Hoever to Wolves this afternoon for just £10 million.
Jota has played just 4 times for Portugal, but a move to Anfield would certainly elevate his chances with his national team too and would certainly ease the game-time and goal-scoring burden on our existing front three.
According to those reports, Liverpool had been trailing Ismaila Sarr but have now made Jota the club's number one target, now that Thiago Alcantara has been signed up. Tim Spiers, the Athletic's Wolves correspondent, hinted a deal was already close.
It seems unlikely that Jota will be signed in time to go into the squad on Sunday, but many reliable sources are suggesting that the Portuguese forward could be a Liverpool player by the weekend at least.
