Liverpool cancel Schalke pre-season friendly

News this morning that Liverpool's season would start against Norwich City on the 10th August, which was later changed to the evening of 9th August, has prompted LFC to announce that the club's final pre-season friendly match is cancelled.

The team were due to take on Joel Matip's old side at Anfield on August 6th, which would've fallen 3 days before the season started.

Even then it was pushing it, with the Community Shield coming just 2 days before that. It was earlier announced that the club were reconsidering their stance on the match, which would have been the 10th of what will be a busy pre-season schedule.

But the club quickly took the very sensible decision to cancel the match completely, meaning that the gap between the season opener and Community Shield is manageable.
