Liverpool boss gives Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injury update
So, it's that time of year again, when our players start dropping like flies during pre-season. The latest on that long list is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The boss updated after the match in the early hours that the midfielder is struggling with a 'small calf problem'. Of course, we know this situation too well. It's likely anything but small.
Speaking after the match, Klopp said: "Two games in a row with 60 minutes. That is very important. He has been a bit unlucky with a calf problem.
"It is not a tear but something he has from time to time when the intensity gets too high for him.
"He had to get through the first 20 minutes when he was really involved and then he felt it. Then he was not part of the game anymore, which is not too cool for the others if there is someone on and off.
"Apart from that he has made all the sessions, which is unbelievably important. That is very positive."
Aside from AOC, we have also got Xherdan Shaqiri, Nathaniel Clyne, Naby Keita, Caoimhin Kelleher, Paul Glatzel and Yasser Larouci all missing chunks of pre-season.
That's not to mention the fact that we'll be without Alisson Becker, Bobby Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane right up until the last few days before the Premier League seasons starts.
The concern, of course, with Alex Oxlade isn't that it's a small injury. The concern is that he can't compete in such high intensity for more than 60 minutes in a couple of matches.
We can only hope it genuinely is just a slight strain and it clears up before the season starts because we're currently a couple more injuries away from a serious problem.
