Liverpool apparently expected to 'rival' Man Utd for Leicester's Maddison
He's been one of the stars of the season so far, putting in some top performances for Leicester, so it was only a matter of time before he was linked with bigger clubs.
The first, and perhaps most obvious choice, is Man Utd, considering how short they are of quality options. But where there's a United, Liverpool usually aren't that far behind.
James Maddison is a top quality, young English midfielder, and considering the ages of the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana, a bit of English youth injected into the midfield would ensure we were covered for the long-term.
But, unlike those three, Maddison offers something much different. He's a forward-thinking, attacking midfielder by trade, with an eye for a spectacular goal and an exceptional range of passing.
According to David Ornstein of the new sporting website the Athletic, Liverpool are set to rival United for the England midfielder in January.
It's a strange association to make though, as it's unlikely he'd be a regular starter and when you take into consideration the fact that he wouldn't go for less than double what he cost his current side, it seems a great expense for the Reds to go to.
Either way, there's no doubting he'd make a great signing. As to whether Klopp thinks we need an 8th central midfield option though, remains to be seen.
