Klopp on Liverpool transfers: 'We are in a luxury situation'
It may not please a lot of fans to hear it, but Jurgen Klopp is more than happy with his current squad.
The Reds boss has, once again, reiterated his stance of previous summers: we will only buy if the right player comes along, at the right price, that improves on what we have.
Many fans have been of the opinion that Thiago is a must have, and at the price he's available for, they may have a point.
But Liverpool won't be pushed around in the transfer market anymore and they will walk away if the club doing the selling is even trying.
He said: "Since I’ve been here, there’s not been one transfer window where I thought if you don’t get this player, then we can not start the season. Not one time.
"We are in a luxury situation, that if we can bring someone in who is a really good player, then that’s good. If we don’t bring someone in, then we still have really good players.
"This club, since I’m here and before, spend what we earn. That was always the case, I don’t know why it’s so surprising now - it’s nothing new.
"We spend if we have to, if not, then we don’t because it makes no sense. That’s the situation. The only problem that we have is that we really need numbers as well."
There was a caveat to that though, a little glimmer of hope that shows the club are still working hard to push through another transfer or two, as the boss admitted we still need numbers to see out a long, tough season ahead.
He added: "Definitely quality over quantity, but for this season, we need quantity as well, that’s the truth."
