Klopp explains Liverpool plans for Jones, Phillips and Ben Woodburn
After they were left out of the 23-man squad to face Napoli on Sunday, it was almost a certainty that youngsters Ben Woodburn, Nat Phillips and Curtis Jones weren't in our plans.
The trio all had decent run-outs during pre-season but it's now been revealed by Jurgen Klopp that the club has other plans for the academy stars.
Speaking to the press in his post-match press conference, he said: "We have players coming back now and so we decided that they don’t train with us, because of the number of players we have.
"We don’t need that number of players and they can have the pre-season now with the U23s, having games and sessions.
"We have 23 or 24 plus goalies in Evian; it would mean these three plus Ryan Kent [absent with illness] involved would be 28 or 29 and that’s not necessary. We don’t need that big number, that’s why we decided that."
So there you have it, looks as if the young lads are likely to go out on loan. And, as in the case of Ryan Kent, probably being sold for a fairly decent fee.
