Klopp baffled by lack of penalty for Liverpool against Newcastle
And he wasn't the only one, as even the BT Sport commentary team commented as it happened that Liverpool should have had a penalty.
When the commentator shortly afterwards spoke to the studio referee, he mumbled his way through excuses of a 'coming together of players'.
The biggest confusion though, was why VAR wasn't applied in this instance of a clear and obvious error.
So it's not surprise to hear Jurgen Klopp comment: "Was I surprised that it still wasn't a penalty? Yes. That doesn't help in situations like this, being surprised.
"For me it was a clear penalty. As long as you win then it's not an issue. If we had lost 1-0 then we would speak differently about it but it is a penalty.
"We cannot fight like this for a ball. Joel Matip, there's a wresting situation and he turns him in the air. In the past we didn't need VAR to make this decision, so we shouldn't have to use it now."
Regardless Liverpool went on to win 3-1 and it could've been even more of a hefty win if not for some profligate finishing and some lucky goalkeeping.
