Kicker backs up Bild, suggests Liverpool have initiated Ozan Kabak contact
After reports at the weekend from Bild that Liverpool were interested in signing Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak, Kicker have now backed the claims with their own, saying the Reds have made initial contact for the young star.
The German outlet has stated that, having now also checked into the rumours themselves, they have checked out, confirming Liverpool's interest.
Apparently, Schalke have had to prepare themselves for losing several of their talented young players, due to financial struggles. Kabak being chief amongst those and he would command a fee of around £40 million.
A number of other top European sides have looked at the player in recent seasons, whilst some still retain an interest. They will no doubt watch on with interest to see whether the Reds firm up their interest.
Man Utd is a club that are also supposed to be interested, but Kicker are referring to a picture of the young defender holding up a Van Dijk shirt a year or two ago, and is reportedly a big fan, expressing a desire to play with the Dutch defender in the future.
Whether or not LFC are truly interested remains to be seen, but there's no doubting that we definitely need a 4th senior centre back going into next season, with Dejan Lovren having now moved on after 6 years at Liverpool.
