Joe Anderson takes credit for Liverpool overturning furlough call
You couldn't make it up sometimes. Just as Liverpool scrabbled to claw back some of the good will that had been garnered amongst fans and the media, the Mayor of Liverpool steps up to take all of the credit.
Liverpool had previously announced that they would be placing a lot of staff members on furlough, as we're sure you're aware, applying to use the government scheme to have 80% of their wages paid and contributing just 20% themselves.
But the decision to overturn it tonight was greeted with appreciation. It may have just come in time to undo some of the damage that FSG have done to their reputation.
So leave it to Liverpool's Evertonian mayor to take all of the credit. Shortly after the announcement, he Tweeted:
