German journalist: 'Sancho will go to Liverpool'
Well that's pretty emphatic, but it's all a case of 'he said, she said', from the man who seems to specialise in LFC transfer stories these days: Jan Aage Fjortoft.
Of all the players that Liverpool have been linked to in recent seasons, only two have really stuck (who haven't yet signed for the club): Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho.
Now, according to a number of sources, including Fjortoft himself, and James Pearce, Werner is almost a certainty to be a primary target for Liverpool this summer.
But Sancho has always seemed too expensive. A player who, if we signed him, would be an expensive luxury; does he really replace Mane, Salah or Firmino in the starting team? Probably not.
Listening to Fjortoft though, he's spoken to a number of leading German football journalists over the weekend and one in particular (who's name he doesn't provide) is adamant that Sancho is coming to LFC.
He said (via the Liverpool Echo): "I asked a journalist who follows [Sancho] closely from one of the biggest papers in Germany.
"I asked if he will go to Manchester United but he said ‘No, no, no, Sancho will go to Liverpool’.
"Manchester United is in for him as well and there are four or five big candidates as well but he thought that because of the friendship between [Jurgen] Klopp and this club they would prefer him to go to Liverpool.
"They said imagine if they had for or five candidates who all pay the same, they will let him go where they have the friends."
At around £120 million, it's hard to see Liverpool spending that much, unless a leading first-team player was mooted to go already, but it'll be interesting to see whether one or both of Sancho and Werner do eventually sign.
