Four players miss Liverpool training in Marbella
As we enter into another lengthy break (10 days, in this instance) during which the Reds have no games, the coaching staff and Jurgen Klopp will be looking at the injuries, knocks, tweaks and fitness levels of his players while they train in their camp in Marbella.
During the first training session today, a number of players were notably absence, with one or two obviously known injuries and a handful of others nursing minor knocks or strains.
Dejan Lovren, perhaps most notably, missed training today after continuing to suffer with an injury picked up against Wolves last month, whilst Joe Gomez was left at home to continue his recovery with the club's remaining staff.
That's nothing new of course, as we're already well aware of those player's injuries. However, James Milner, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum were all absent and Klopp had given a little bit of insight into what the cause of the extra absences were.
He said: "It's how it is after games, you have a couple of problems.
"Millie and Gini still struggle with their illnesses, so they did a bit of work in the hotel.
"Fabinho felt [something] a little bit; it will not be a problem, but there was no reason for him to be out today.
"Hopefully he can train tomorrow [Wednesday] and if not then the day after that.
"None of them are serious, all will be fine."
So, despite many fans' concerns over a second warm weather camp in a month, perhaps it came at just the right time with a number of key players being absent. We already know of Gini's problems over the last week and after his return on Saturday, he deserves a break.
With Bayern Munich visiting Anfield in a weeks' time, having these players return to the squad will be absolutely crucial and, provided there are no more injuries in the meantime (touch wood!) we should be looking at a pretty strong bench come the start of March.
