Dutch legend: 'Mane the new Ronaldo'
At this point in time, it's really hard to disagree that Mane may be up there with one of the greatest players of all time. But that's the opinion of Dutch legend Danny Blind.
His stats may not be quite up to those of Ronaldo, but purely in terms of his match-winning abilities and his uncanny knack of dominating opposition teams, there's no question at all.
Mane was left on the bench for the thumping win over Bournemouth on Saturday but he was instrumental in the derby win on Wednesday, scoring and assisting 3 goals altogether.
In 2019, he's scored 29 goals. Since the start of last season he's scored 39 goals with 12 assists and has passed the 100 mark for goals and assists at Liverpool in the week.
For a player that plays predominantly out wide (like Ronaldo) that's a remarkable feat in 100 games, so the comparisons make a lot of sense. Particularly when even Messi admitted he voted for the captain of Senegal for the Ballon d'Or last week.
Blind said (via the Express): "Sadio Mane is the new Ronaldo in world football.
"As an attacking player he is absolutely fantastic. I can go through all his qualities - and he is superb in every aspect.
"He can score with his left foot, his right foot, with sensational headers.
"He can give brilliant assists, he is an incredible athlete - and I could go on even more!
"Mane is the super modern player. If you look at his skills that is one great thing, but he is able to combine that with astonishing sprints right throughout the game.
"That requires so much power. You have to be incredibly strong both physically and mentally.
"But Sadio has it all."
