Chris Kirkland: Alisson got better as season went on
Former Liverpool keeper Chris Kirkland was immensely impressed with new Liverpool number 1, Alisson Becker this season.
He admitted to Liverpoolfc.com that he'd not seen a lot of Alisson prior to him signing, other than the two matches against Roma, obviously, but he believes that the Brazilian just got better as the season went on.
He said: "He's brilliant.
"I didn't see too much of him at Roma, but when he came here I watched him closely, watched training a few times.
"This was near the start of the season and he's got better as the season has gone on.
"That is credit to the goalkeeper coaches – John Achterberg in particular – and the goalkeeper unit."
Alisson's signing broke the transfer record for a goalkeeper almost twice over, before Chelsea almost immediately broke it again for the signature of Kepa.
But Alisson's was by far the most successful season, keeping almost 30 clean sheets overall and making a string of crucial saves that led to 2nd in the league and a Champions League.
