Carragher: Something has to give against Newcastle
Any Liverpool fan worth their salt could never have imagined choosing one competition over another, unless we're talking about the league cup.
All we've heard all season from Gary Neville is that Klopp should forget the Champions League if he wants to challenge for the Premier League because we can't cope.
Until this point, pretty much all of us associated with LFC have laughed at Neville's assertions but now Jamie Carragher has made a similar kind of insinuation.
The Reds beat Huddersfield comfortably last night at Anfield, a great warm-up prior to taking on Barcelona on Wednesday night.
After that, we play Newcastle on Saturday night, before welcoming Barcelona to Anfield on Tuesday the week after, and Carragher thinks that Klopp has to start prioritising one over the other by rotating in the league. Particularly if City beat Burnley.
Speaking on Sky Sports, following the win last night, he said: "I definitely think on Monday/Tuesday he has a decision to make about the team he picks for Barcelona on the back of City’s result because yes the league is more important for Liverpool but the Champions League is huge.
"The Champions League is the biggest trophy in the world. The only it’s not the biggest for is Liverpool this season because Liverpool have gone so long without winning the title but any other club that made the last 16 of the Champions League would have rather won it.
"It was almost like the Porto game was an after-thought. But now you’re getting to the semi-finals, it’s Barcelona. If City are still in front, I think you then have to make a big decision because I don’t think you can play the same team three times in six days.
"For me, I may be wrong, but I think something has to give at Newcastle and you have to make changes in that game."
