Breaking: Virgil Van Dijk wants to extend Liverpool contract
The reports coming from ESPN's Melissa Reddy this afternoon claim that Liverpool's main man at the back, Virgil Van Dijk wants to extend his contract.
The 27 year old Netherlands international joined Liverpool in the January window of 2018 and has since gone on to play over 70 times for the Reds since his £75 million move.
Reddy's sources at the club have insisted that neither the player or club are in a huge rush to enter negotiations, but Virgil's representatives have made it clear he is keen to stay.
Considering he still has 3.5 years on his current deal, there is no great clamour to make sure this is done, but the club will no doubt be keen to reward a player that is widely considered the best defender in world football this season.
Van Dijk, who many consider as favourite for the Ballon d'Or, has never been anything but happy at Anfield and winning the Champions League on Saturday night, a year after having appeared in his first final, has only added to his feelings on contentment.
The improved, much longer deal could be agreed this summer, but with the Nations League games coming up, on the back of a gruelling season, LFC and the player's agent Neil Fewings are happy to take their time.
It's expected a new deal will be agreed with a minimum of fuss from either party.
