Breaking: Milner signs contract extension with Liverpool
It's further great news for Reds today, as the club just keeps on putting out positive news, as James Milner has signed a contract extension with the club.
The popular midfielder has a great deal of respect from Jurgen Klopp and the club and it was known that they were keen to keep him, and he was keen to stay.
Which is why it was a little baffling that we'd heard nothing for so long. But the news this evening is great for the club, and the player, that he'll be here beyond the current season.
Milner has been at the club since the summer of 2015, joining 4 months before Klopp did and has been a mainstay ever since.
The 33 year old has played 198 games for the club, meaning he'll pass 200 this season and join an exclusive club. He has also give us 25 goals and 40 assists in that time. Which, for a player that isn't a regular starter in midfield or further up, is pretty bloody remarkable.
The player himself told Liverpoolfc.com: "I’ve been lucky and privileged to play for this club for four-and-a-half years now, it has been an amazing time seeing how the club is changing and developing.
"I just enjoy coming into training every day, working with this group of players, this manager and coaching staff, and being part of this football club.
"We had discussions with the club and this was obviously the ideal for me, this was what I wanted to do – stay and play at the highest level as long as I can.
"Liverpool is an unbelievable place to be and we’re a very, very good football team and hopefully we can keep improving."
