Big Virg heaps praise on Liverpool captain
Apart from perhaps Lucas Leiva himself, there surely can't be many Liverpool players who have divided opinions as much Jordan Henderson, our current club captain.
The Sunderland-born midfielder has been at the club now for approaching a decade, playing almost 450 times for the Reds but he still isn't fully appreciated by many fans.
Like many of the club's most famous and legendary sons though, the captain is appreciated and loved by his team mates.
Speaking following the victory in Austria last night, centre back Van Dijk said (via the Liverpool Echo): "Jordan is such an important player for this team.
"I think the contribution he makes goes unnoticed sometimes. I don’t know if he’s under-appreciated outside the club, but inside the club I know how highly we all think of him. He’s our captain and he always leads by example.
"He created the second goal with a great pass and always works so hard for the team.
"He’s been at the club for a number of years and we all appreciate what he does for Liverpool, both on and off the pitch. He’s a leader."
The Red's captain has reinvented himself a number of times across the last couple of seasons and continues to do so this. But one thing is for certain, he has upped his game recently and is showing just how important he is to the team and the club.
