2019-20 Champions League rules carried over into new season's competition
After the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, and the season restarted, the Champions League knockout stages were played out in a mini-tournament in Lisbon.
Those final three rounds came with a set of rule changes too, to help teams and players navigate their way through with minimum risk.
So UEFA have now announced that some of those rules will remain in place for this season's competition. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, a subs bench of twelve players, allowing Liverpool to name a strong squad throughout the competition.
Secondly, five of those can be used during three periods of the game will still be allowed over a 90 minute match, meaning the potential for injuries and fatigue should be reduced.
According to the Liverpool Echo, that decision should please Jurgen Klopp immeasurably. And considering the size of our squad now, you can understand why, and it'll allow us to use all of our available options as we need to now.
